Slender systems exhibit a nonlinear behavior that may lead to structural failure without reaching the limit strength of the material.
The handling of such stability problems is not trivial. For the engineer, there are two methods to approach stability problems: the solution of a bifurcation problem (buckling) and the solution of the deformation problem according the finite strain theory, accounting for deformation-dependent stress resultants.
