New research project (FOR-1498) - effects of the alkali-silica reaction in concrete structures

The DFG has recently approved a 3-year funding for a national research group FOR-1498/0 beginning January 2012. The objectives of the
research group are to investigate the effects of the alkali-silica reaction in concrete structures due to simultaneous cyclic loading and
external supply of alkali. The research group comprises of scientists from the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Karlsruher Institute for Technology,
the Ruhr University Bochum and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing. We, at the Institute for Structural Mechanics,
as part of this research group, will investigate and develop numerical strategies and models within the Finite Element framework in order
to understand and gain further insights into the characteristics and interaction of alkali-transport and alkali-silica induced damage in concrete.
